Probability with The Smarties Club

The Smarties Club were looking at probability.

Jasraj put some Smarties on the table.  He closes his eyes and asks, "Do you predict I can pick a green one?"  We say he will for sure because all the Smarties are green.
He picks one and then he eats it.
David makes a group with just a few green ones.  We say he might be able to get a green smarty.  We make sure his eyes are really closed.
He picks a red one and eats it.
The next bunch has no green ones, so we say Gardenia can't pick any green Smarties - it's impossible!
She tries anyway and gets an orange one.
The next one has lots of Smarties but only one green.  We predict there is only a tiny chance that Liam can pick green.
He gets a brown one and says it tastes delicious!
This set has one of each colour.  Isabel asks, "What chance is there of picking green?"  We say it is one out of five because there is equal chance to get each colour.
She picks a blue one and gobbles it up!
The last group has three greens, one red, two oranges and four blue.  So the chances of getting each colour are unequal.  Europa asks, "Which colour has the highest chance of being picked?"  We say blue because there four blues out of ten Smarties in all.
But she gets the green one at last!

Have you filled a bucket today? 💧

Bucket filling is all about showing respect and kindness to others.

We have written about how others could fill our bucket.

Kiwi Sport - Dance 💃

We have really enjoyed our dance classes this term 🎶

Happy Hens 🐓

We had to say goodbye to our friends the chicks.  They have gone to live on a farm. They have been named Mr Meadows & the M&Ms. They now live with Mrs Hick's mum -
Chicken Gran.

We have already had an update:
Hi everyone, Chicken Gran here. Mr Meadows & the M&Ms are all doing well.  They enjoy being out in the sun, eating slugs & snails & meeting new chicken friends. They have more feathers & note Mr Meadows red chin. Now eating food with more calcium for bones & growth. They have learnt to go inside their house when it rains & at night.
